Umbrella Winter City Sounds - City Edit

Umbrella Winter City Sounds is an open access live music festival that features around 350 contemporary performances by local, national and international artists.

With so much happening, we've created our very own city-based edit. Here's a few to pop in your diaries!

Umbrella opening street party

Join in the opening night street party celebrations...in Topham Mall. Showcasing a fine sample of local bands and DJs, you can tuck into some delicious hearty food and wine, enjoy Young Henrys beer, warm yourself by the fire-pits and take in all the action of street performers. This is one winter party you won't want to miss!

An urban hip-hop music event, centred around raising awareness about mental health, with a percentage of proceeds raised supporting Headspace.

Retro Rave

Designed to introduce a new generation to the dance culture of the 90s, Retro Rave is an underage dance party at Carclew. With DJs over 2 areas, site specific installations and performance art expect a crazy, interactive environment that will make you want to dance. Think hazers, glow sticks and fluoro.

Producer Series

A bedroom recording studio, built in the heart of Rundle Mall, will become home to one of Adelaide’s most well-known producers, Luke Million. Equipped with headphones and surrounded by perspex, you will be able to watch and listen in. A true behind the scenes look into how music is created.

Seastar Rock

Kids will be up singing, dancing and playing games, as they help navigate sustainability of our oceans with a new show! Highlights include, helping Paddy Polar Bear beat the war on waste, bringing colour to the coral reef and sailing with Pirate Wally Walrus and Parrot Polly, as they take on plastic bag monsters!

From the bluesy beats of Blue Boppin’ Whale to the dance floor filler Jelly Fish Fizzies, parents love the songs as much as the kids do! Fabulous family fun! Under 1 year’s old free to this event.

Clip Combat

See as the winners of the two categories of the Clip Combat Music Video Competition are announced and the finalists screened on the big screen. This will be followed by the premiere of the City of Music Documentary by Lewis Brideson. Featuring live music by local musician Louis Donnarumma.

Girls Rock! Adelaide Showcase

Girls Rock! Adelaide provides music mentoring for girls, trans and non-binary people aged 10-17 over 5 days during the school holidays. Join them at the end of the week for a gig showcasing original songs written by Adelaide’s newest rock stars!

Cry Baby Fest

As a celebration of their first birthday, Cry Baby are chucking a FREE festival. Kingswood will be headlining along with some other regular local acts. 1,500 people, 5 bands, food stalls, pop ups and an outdoor bar.

Punk Crawl

Hitting the streets for the first time is the ‘Punk Crawl’, the unforgettable crawl for every lover of live music and pubs.

Join in as they mosh their way through venues in the West End and end up at ‘Cry Baby Fest’ for Kingswood.

So here is the deal… One ticket for the Punk Crawl will get you: FREE entry to every gig. FREE Young Henry’s at every venue for you punks. The chance to go in the draw to hang out with Kingswood after their gig.

Sconefest

Sconefest, is a musical jam with scones and cream, that celebrates the agelessness of music. Showcasing South Australian original music from those who have reached a certain vintage, as well as music by upcoming original songwriters dedicated or inspired by older generations. Teaming up with Country Women’s Association of South Australia – Adelaide Branch, audiences will be able to enjoy this afternoon of music with a scone and a cup of tea.

Alleyway Acoustica

Tucked into a laneway off of Rundle Mall, Lindes Lane will be filled with cozy vibes, great atmosphere and sweet tunes from Diamond Skies, DEAN FOREVER, LUKA, and Erin Mo.

An open air street session of folk-blues with Jimmybay kicks off the six hour Umbrella City Sounds event at The Mill. The Fiddle Chicks thread their folk tunes through the inner spaces, roving storytelling at it’s finest, leading to the Breakout space where Mark Curtis and the Flannelettes, Jen Lush and Loren Kate fill up the night with their indie-folk/rock songs of identity and belonging, joining the hum of the city’s night soundscape.

Semaphore Music Festival presents Frank Yamma, Vonda Last and Corey Theatre in a performance that celebrates UNESCO Year of Indigenous Languages. These important Aboriginal artists will explore narratives around connection to country and family, merging cultures, friendship, transformation and reconciliation. This event aims to embrace cultural maintenance through storytelling, songwriting and language revival.

Lunar Boogie

‘Lunar Boogie’ is a space-themed pop-up party exploring futuristic dance music from decades past. Dance yourself into orbit to the cosmic sounds from a selection of Adelaide’s finest DJs in an immersive, other-worldly environment.

Headlining is Jura Soundsystem, the production and DJ alias of Isle of Jura label founder Kevin Griffiths. He’ll be joined by vinyl hustlers Paradise Loft Soundsystem, aka Lewis & Ollie Graham, as well as Fantastic Black Plastic, DJ moniker of local tastemaker Nick Gencarelli.

Closing party – Neon Dreams
