Residential Parking Permit

If you are a resident living within the City of Adelaide or North Adelaide and do not have space to park your vehicle, you may be eligible for a Residential Parking Permit. 

Residential Parking Permits allow residents to park in:

  • Timed zones of 1 hour or more in the designated area
  • Ticketed zones of 1 hour or more in the designated area
  • Designated residential permit zones in the designated area

The vehicle must be moved every 24 hours.

Eligibility Criteria & Conditions

To be eligible for a Residential Parking Permit you must:

  • Be a resident of the City of Adelaide or North Adelaide
  • Comply with the criteria set out in Categories 1 to 5 below

Please note that apartment buildings are not eligible for any category under the Residential Parking Permit Scheme.

Supporting Documents

The following documents are required to be provided in support of your permit application:

  • If you are not the property owner, your tenancy/lease agreement
  • A copy of the current vehicle registration certificate

If the vehicle is not registered to you (such as a company vehicle), you must provide the current registration certificate and a letter from the registered owner/company which states that you have full use of the vehicle and it is required to be garaged at your home address.

Assessment of all applications is based solely on the eligibility of the property itself, irrespective of whether the applicant is a ratepayer or tenant.

*A multi-dwelling property or group of dwellings includes units and strata groups. If your property has a shared title it is typically classed as a multi dwelling. Please note that apartment buildings are not eligible for any type of residential parking permit.

Adelaide Oval Event Parking

Residents who are situated approximately 1.2 kms from the Adelaide Oval within North Adelaide may apply for an Event Parking Permit, which entitles them to park within 2P event parking zones during an Adelaide Oval event period. Residents outside the areas noted on the map are not eligible for an Event Parking Permit.

  • For properties with on-site parking, 1 permit may be issued
  • For properties with no on-site parking, 2 permits may be issued

North Adelaide residents situated within the areas noted on the map that hold an existing Residential Parking Permit are entitled to park within 2P event parking zones during an Adelaide Oval event period.

To apply, submit your application via the Residential Parking Permit scheme online application form and select the ‘Event Parking’ category.

Change of Vehicle/Replacement Permits

If you have a new vehicle or require a replacement permit the following is required:

  • Current Registration Certificate for the new vehicle
  • Return the old Permit Sticker
  • Payment of $15.00 administration fee

Trial Residential Parking Permit

Trial Residential Parking Permit for eligible North Adelaide residents will also be running for a period of one year from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2020, alongside the Residential Parking Permit Scheme.

Category 1 - Development approval BEFORE 1976

This category applies to a dwelling, multiple dwellings* or group of dwellings* within a single building with development approval before 1976.

  • Where there are no on-site parking spaces designated to, or available on the property, then a Resident Parking Permit may be issued for up to two vehicles.
  • Where there is one on-site parking space designated to, or available on the property, then a Resident Parking Permit may be issued for one vehicle.
  • Where there are two or more on-site parking spaces designated to or available on the property, then no Resident Parking Permits will be issued.

Multiple dwelling buildings*

As part of the North Adelaide Park Review, multiple dwelling buildings in North Adelaide will be eligible for a Category 1 Permit on a trial basis in 2019/2020. More information on the trial and changes are available here.

Category 2 - Development approval AFTER 1976

This category applies to a property with development approval after 1976.

  • Where there are no on-site parking spaces designated to or available on the property then a Resident Parking Permit may be issued for one vehicle.
  • Where there is one or more on-site parking spaces designated to or available on the property then no Residential Parking Permit will be issued.
  • Multi-dwelling* properties are not eligible for a Category 2 permit.

Category 3 - Daily Care Parking Permit

This category applies to a dwelling, multiple dwellings* or group of dwellings* within a single building which:

  • Meets the requirements of Category 1 or Category 2; and
  • Where a resident requires daily medical treatment

A Daily Care Parking Permit may be issued for the sole use of an approved person providing daily care (e.g. Medical Practitioners, Physiotherapists, Registered and Enrolled Nurses and Accredited Carers) provided the total number of permits issued does not exceed the maximum stated for Category 1 or Category 2, as applicable.

Category 4 - Pensioner Health Benefit or Full-time Student Card

This category applies to a dwelling, multiple dwellings* or group of dwellings* within a single building which:

  • Meet the requirements of permits which attract on-going permit fees (e.g. Category 2); and
  • Where a resident is the holder of a current Pensioner Health Benefit Card or a full time Student Card

Presentation of either of these cards entitles the holder to a concession of 25% to the Permit Fee for one vehicle. This concession does not apply to the application fee.

Category 5 - Short-term Tenancy

This category applies to single dwellings (excludes hotels, hostels and boarding houses, etc.) where the property is designated for short-term tenancy e.g. a few days/weeks.

Due to the nature of these permits it is necessary to issue them to the dwelling instead of the vehicle. The maximum number of Permits issued to any dwelling for this use will be one.

Annual fees apply to this permit type.
