Adelaide has an internationally recognised reputation for a thriving creative and cultural sector. Council is committed to working with the community to build on our City’s many strengths to ensure Adelaide is a welcoming and dynamic city full of rich and diverse experiences.
Culture is fundamental to this vision. Culture is how we express who we are, as individuals, as members of a group and as a community. Culture is the very essence of our city, it is what we value and celebrate, and what makes us unique.
A thriving creative cultural city is an essential driver of social and economic development.
Cultural Strategy
The Cultural Strategy articulates a shared understanding of culture, and identifies high level actions relating to Council’s role in delivering and maximising cultural outcomes for the City.
Arts & Cultural Grants Program
The Arts and Cultural Grants Program provides funding to eligible groups, organisations and individuals to deliver creative arts and cultural projects that contribute to a welcoming and dynamic City full of rich and diverse experiences.
UNESCO City of Music
On December 15, 2015 Adelaide was designated as the first and only UNESCO City of Music in Australia. Adelaide joins Melbourne – City of Literature, and Sydney – City of Film as Australia’s UNESCO Creative Cities.
Public Art
Public Art is about artistic expression. Integral to the character of the city, in its diversity and quality it provides an insight into cultural life and community values. It plays a strong role in creating and celebrating the city’s sense of place and identity.
